Peterborough Chimney Sweep & WETT Inspection

Frequently asked questions

What is a WETT inspection?

WETT stands for Wood Energy Technology Transfer. A WETT-certified inspector checks a wood-burning appliance and chimney against code and installation requirements. Insurers often ask for one when you buy a home with a wood stove or install a new one.

How often should I have my chimney swept?

The common guidance is to have it inspected at least once a year and swept when creosote builds up. If you burn a lot of wood, that can mean every year. Your sweep can advise you based on what they find.

Does my insurance company need a WETT inspection?

Many Ontario insurers ask for one for wood-burning appliances, especially when you buy a home or switch insurers. Check with your insurer to see exactly what they need.

What does a chimney sweep cost?

It varies with the appliance type, the height and access of the chimney, and whether an inspection is included. We haven't published numbers because we couldn't confirm public local price lists. Ask for a quote.

Who will do the work?

An independent local chimney professional. This site is a referral service and we don't perform sweeps or inspections ourselves.
